A Day to Remember
We celebrate birthdays. We celebrate anniversaries, We celebrate holidays.
Does God have a day set aside to be celebrated? If so, what is this day and what is its significance?
Genesis 2:1-3 "Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all HIs work which God had created and made."
Exodus 20:8-11 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work...For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day and hallowed it."
Hebrews 4:4,9-10 "For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way; And God rested on the seventh day from all HIs works. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his work as God did from His."
Mark 2:27-28 "And He (Jesus) said to them, the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath."
Luke 4:16 "And as Jesus custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read."
Acts 17:2 "Then Paul as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures."
Exodus 31:13 "Surely my Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.
Ezekiel 20:12, 20 "Moreover, I also gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them. Hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God."
Isaiah 58:13-14 "If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy day of the Lord honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your won works, then you shall delight yourself in the Lord; and I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, and feed you the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the Lord has spoken."
Isaiah 66:22-23 For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me says the Lord, so shall your descendants and your name remain. And it shall come to pass that from one new moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me says the Lord"
According to the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, our world is at at a moment of historic danger. Their Science and Security board has announced that the world is 90 seconds until midnight; a time of mass destruction and extinction of life on earth as we know it. Does the Word of God offer any hope of escape from the predicted global disaster.
Matthew 24:6-14 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. And then many will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations and then the end will come.
Matthew 24:29-31 Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in haven, and then all the tribes of earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send HIs angels to gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The day of the dead is a Latin-American holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a reunion of food, drink, and celebration. According to tradition, the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31 and the spirits of children can rejoin their families for twenty-four hours. The spirits of adults can do the same on November 2. There are many who wonder about the reality of death. What is it? Does the Bible reveal any truth as to what happens to someone after death?
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6, & 10. For the living know that they will die; but the dead know not anything. And they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; nevermore will they have a share in anything done under the sun. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.
Job 14:12, 21. So man lies down and does not rise. Till the heavens are no more they will not awake, nor be aroused from their sleep. His sons will come to honor him but he does not know it; they are brought low and he does not perceive it.
Psalm 146:3-4 Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in who there is no help. His spirit (breath) departs, he returns to his earth, in that very day his plans perish.
Psalm 115:17 The dead do not praise the Lord, Nor do any who go down into silence.
Deuteronomy 18:10-12, 14 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or on wo conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord...the Lord your God has not appointed such for you.
Leviticus 19:31 & 20:6 Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them; I am the Lord your God. And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.
Isaiah 8:19-20 And when they say to you, Seek those who are mediums and wizards who whisper and mutter, should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living: To the law and to the testimony if they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Revelation 16:14 For they are the spirits of demons, performing signs.
John 5:28-29 For the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His (Jesus) voice and come forth--those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation.
1 Thessalonians 4:15-18 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an arch-angel and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Daniel 12:2-3 And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt. For more information on the state of the dead see also Revelation chapter 20.
The All Seeing Eye
Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Hebrews 4:13 And there is nothing hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Luke 8:17 For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known or come to light.
Jeremiah 17:10 I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give very man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.
Revelation 2:23 I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.
Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing whether good or evil.
Daniel 2:20-22 Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals the deep and the secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.
As portrayed in Hollywood films, the wickedness of the cities have nearly reached their limits. Very soon the judgments of God will be poured upon the inhabitants who live in these populated metropolitan centers for their selfishness, love of pleasure and luxury, and cruel treatment of one another. The Bible foretells the final fall of the great cities of the earth as a warning to all. One day soon the kingdoms of this world will fall and be destroyed by fire; and God will set up an everlasting kingdom, creating a new heaven and a new earth where selfishness and sin will be no more forever.
Revelation 14:8 And another angel followed saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Revelation 16:17-21 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne saying, It is done! And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earth quake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God to give her the cup of the fierceness of His wrath. Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since the plague was exceedingly great.
Revelation 18:1-5, 8 I saw another angel coming down from heaven having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury. And I heard another voice from heaven saying, Come our of her my people lest you share in her sins and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Therefore her plagues will come in one day--death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire. for strong is the Lord who judges her. (for complete description read all Rev. 18)
James 5:1-5 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of the Sabaoth. You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in the day of slaughter.
Luke 17:28-33 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot; They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. In that day, he who is on the house top, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.
Luke 19:41-44 Now as He (Jesus) drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, If you had known even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build and embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love this world, or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world and it's lust are passing away. But he who does the will of God abides forever.
